This piece examined our direct impact on the decline of industry in the United States. Each piece of clay was molded into a miniature piece of corn, a muscular arm or a bolt, representing different areas of industry in this country. When the viewer pushed on a lever next to the piece, the clay parts were submerged into a large pan of water. Over time, the clay pieces disintegrated, leaving a large outline of the United States in the pan of water. This represented our personal involvement in the decline of industry and manufacturing in this country, which has been forced over seas by high demand for low-cost products.
